With summer on the doorstep, it’s time to dust off your bike bring it to a Big Bike Fix-Up near you and get it checked and spruced up for free.
“If your bike’s been a little neglected, bring it along and we’ll make sure it’s in safe running order so you can jump back on and rediscover the joys of cycling,” says Simon Kennett, Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Active Travel and Road Safety Coordinator.
The Regional Council is holding a series of Big Bike Fix-Ups around the region over the next month to encourage people to enjoy summer and the great outdoors on two wheels. Volunteer cycle experts will do a thorough safety check and can carry out repairs including replacing brake pads, oiling chains adjusting gears and tightening handle bars.
“Cycling is a fun way to improve fitness and it is a sustainable and cheap form of transport but just like other vehicles, it’s really important that your bike is safe to use. Our Big Bike Fix-Ups are an opportunity to ensure everything is safe and working before setting off.
“We want to help you, your friends, and your family get back on your bike this summer and enjoy the great outdoors from the saddle.”
