Ōtaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the final electoral results giving him a majority of 7,782 which is the largest ever for the Ōtaki electorate.
“It’s a huge honour to be re-elected as the local MP and I’m proud to represent the people of Kāpiti and Horowhenua in Parliament for another three years.”
With special votes counted, Mr Guy’s majority is narrowly ahead of Darren Hughes’ majority of 7,736 achieved in 2002.
“This is a strong result considering the recent boundary changes, which meant many National voters in Shannon, Opiki and Tokomaru transferred to the Rangitikei electorate. It was disappointing to lose these areas from the Ōtaki electorate, but Rangitikei MP Ian McKelvie will do a great job of representing them.
“The final result is a strong endorsement of the Kāpiti expressway and Transmission Gully. My focus for the next three years will be on maximising the local benefits from these projects, and on the expanded rollout of Ultra-Fast Broadband.
“I want to thank everyone who supported me, and I will work as usual over the next three years on behalf of all our communities. My two offices in Levin and Paraparaumu will continue to be busy and accessible to everyone..
“I’m also delighted to be reappointed as Minister for Primary Industries and Racing, and to move up two places in the rankings to 14 in Cabinet. Industries like farming, forestry, fishing and horticulture are the backbone of New Zealand’s economy.”
Mr Guy first won the seat of Ōtaki in 2008 with a majority of 1354, before increasing that to 5231 in 2011.
