The annual review of progress on the Ōtaki River will be held Wednesday September 10, and this year there will be an art auction as part of the day-long activities.
Supporters of the river work have an opportunity to bid on a 900×600 mm acrylic painting of the stunning Chrystall’s Bend Lagoon. It was created by Levin artist Grace Goss, who donated it to Friends of the Ōtaki River to help raise funds for their on-going work on the river.
Over the past decade, the Friends have planted about 50,000 native trees along the river edge, opened up two significant public walkways on the north edge of the river, and developed recreational stops at the estuary and at Chrystall’s Bend.
The “Chrystall’s Lagoon” painting will be auctioned during the lunch break of the annual walkover, which is held on Wednesday September 10. The public is invited, and meet at 9 am at the Greater Wellington depot on Riverbank Rd, Ōtaki.
Auctioneer Peter Jensen has agreed to accept telephone bids for Grace Goss’s painting by prior arrangement. Those interested in placing a prior bid for “Chrystall’s Lagoon’ can email or ring secretary Trevor Wylie [email protected] Tel 06 364 8918 prior to the auction day.
