Ōtaki MP Nathan Guy has formally launched his campaign for the Ōtaki electorate at the Waikanae Bowling Club on the weekend.
“I’m very proud to be the local MP for Ōtaki, and I’m proud of what’s been achieved locally,” Mr Guy said at the function, which was attended by around 200 supporters and Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee.
“I want to push ahead with the Kāpiti expressway and Transmission Gully, and ensure our community benefits from these exciting projects.
“My vision for the next three years is to see us maximizing these opportunities. I want to make sure locals are taking up the construction and design jobs, and that our communities are connected by these new roads.
“I want to encourage more industry to base themselves in places like Levin, Ōtaki and Foxton.
“This election is hugely important for our region, because these new roads are not locked in stone yet – a change of Government will put them all at risk.
“We know Labour hates the expressway and we know they are lukewarm on Transmission Gully, and we know the Greens want to stop all new highway projects. We can’t afford to put all this progress at risk.
“Our region has made great progress over the last few years with new and extended train services, Air New Zealand flights to Kāpiti Airport, the new $100m Ryman retirement village, reduced fees visitor fees for Kāpiti Island, and major cleanup efforts for Lake Horowhenua and the Manawatu River.
“We also have a Children’s Team being set up in Horowhenua to support vulnerable children, the new Foxton Health Centre opened last month, and an after-hours doctors service in Levin.
“I’m passionate about Kāpiti and Horowhenua. This is my home and where my roots are. It is a huge privilege to be the local MP and something I never, ever take for granted.”
Mr Guy has been the MP for Ōtaki since 2008. In 2011 he won the seat with a majority of 5231.
