The Ultra Fast Broadband rollout aimed to connect 16,000 local customers in Raumati, Waikanae, Paraparaumu and Paekākāariki to fast internet speeds via, as well as connecting eight local schools, hit a snag yesterday, Wednesday 15th January.
Motorists and pedestrians were alerted to a significant gas leak around mid-day from the smell of gas from where workers were laying the Chorus ultrafast broadband fibre cable, just north of the roundabout at the end of Kāpiti Road. The incident led to the closing of a section of Manly Street at Paraparaumu Beach for around an hour. The incident was attended by emergency services which included a fire appliance, and police who redirected traffic, diverting vehicles and cyclists via Golf Rd. and George Street
