Social issues campaigner Dale Evans says health issues have prevented him from standing in this year’s elections.
“I’m due to have a hip operation shortly which would effectively sideline me for several weeks during the campaign so the wisest course is to step aside this time. This will be greeted as great news by some and disappointing for others. I have had a large number of people encourage me to stand,” says Mr Evans.
“However I believe I can still be an effective voice in the campaign and will keep the candidates on their toes. This is an important time for Kāpiti and I will keep raising important issues as I have done for many years. My billboard will be back in place soon so watch this space.”
Mr Evans said he wished all of those standing for office the very best for the upcoming elections. “It is never easy putting yourself out there for public judgement but it is vital candidates are open and honest about their policies and are fully accountable to the community once elected.”
