Waikanae enjoyed a Taste of France with the recent Wine Auction and Long Lunch organised by the local branch of the Labour Party.
Held at the Waikanae Senior Citizens Hall the auction and lunch is becoming a popular annual event and was again very well attended.
Local member Bruce Taylor said he was very pleased with the event. “Sixty party members, supporters and friends attended the very successful social gathering and fund raiser.”
Mr Taylor said many Labour MPs donated and signed the bottles of wine. Iain Lees-Galloway, MP for Palmerston North, and his family, were among those at the event, as was Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson who did a superb job as auctioneer.
The hall was festooned with French themed bunting and guests enjoyed an afternoon of convivial conversation while enjoying a drink and nibbles of chicken liver pate and French bread before the main course, which was a choice of Coq au Vin, Boeuf Bourgignon or Cassolet.
Mr Taylor expects next year’s event to be even larger.
