It looks like the Kāpiti election season is off to a fast start with car signs, newspaper adverts, trailor signs and flyers on display even before any candidates have officially registered to stand for election.
Nominations have just opened for candidates wishing to contend for the Kāpiti mayoralty, one of five district-wide council seats, the Ōtaki, Waikanae, Paraparumu, and Raumati/Paekākāariki ward seats as well as community board positions throughout the district. The other positions are the Kāpiti representative of the Greater Wellington Regional Council and the Capital and Coast District Health Board.
At the last election 72 candidates stood.
Those wishing to stand can get nomination forms from KCDC returning officer Jude Wadsworth.
Nominations close 12 noon on August 16. The official Election day is October 12.
