It was a delight to read about the new walkway along the Paekākāariki escarpment. When completed, this will give access between Paekākāariki and Pukerua Bay with outstanding 180 degree views. We understand there has been some confusion over access to the track. The entrance is at the northern end of the State Highway 1 bridge over the railway line, and is accessed from the southern end of Ames St. Follow the footpath over the overbridge to the northern end and down the steps. there is no access from the Fisherman’s Table carpark as this would involve crossing both the highway and the railway line.
Note there is a $10,000 fine for unauthorised crossing of the railway. No bikes or dogs are permitted.
