People from all over the region enjoyed the Kāpiti Arts Trail at the weekend.
Council’s Arts and Museum Development Officer Catherine Scollay says the event, which included 250 artists and artisans at 80 sites around Kāpiti, was very well attended.
“We had lots of local visitors and people from Wellington, Manawatu and even Hawke’s Bay,” she says. “No-one seem concerned about the rain on Saturday and there was a real buzz at the different sites. A lot of people seemed be buying stuff, as well as looking and that is a great indication of how much creative talent we have in the district.”
At the 12th Kāpiti Arts Trail this year, art and artisan hubs (22) featured for the first time and proved popular “as people could view lots of different kinds of artistic media in one place”.
Around 50 artists in studio, seven galleries and two cafs also displayed works for the Trail with new artists and lots of regulars taking part. Young people were well represented at several venues.
The annual Kāpiti Arts Trail has grown to become one of the most significant free public events on the Coast and provides arts and artisans in the district with an opportunity to showcase their work.
