Newly elected Ōtaki Community Board member Jackie Elliott said the community’s patience is running out on the undecided fate of the Capital Connection service.
“This issue has dragged on for many months. There have been several very well attended public meetings and all sorts of assurances were given by NZTA that a decision was imminent. Yet all this time later and there is no response. It is not good enough and the people of Ōtaki deserve better.”
Ms Elliott said if no response is received to give some certainty Capital Connection commuters will start to look at alternatives and this would have a significant impact on Ōtaki.
Greater Wellington Regional Councillor Nigel Wilson agreed with Ms Elliott’s assessment.
“Ms Elliott is correct. The uncertainty has already seen passenger numbers drop. Greater Wellington and Horizons Councils have put a compelling case in favour of retaining the Capital Connection.
“I am very concerned over the ongoing delays. The decision is still sitting with the Minister Gerry Brownlee who is now apparently on extended leave.
“The people of Kāpiti and the region deserve better treatment than this. Answers must be given about the fate of this essential service.”
