A detailed draft plan for the development of Whareroa is being prepared by Peter Handford, for the Dept of Conservation and Whareroa Guardians. It has some interesting ideas for the future looking at restoration, recreation, agricultural use, heritage and education/information. Trustees walked parts of the farm with Peter last weekend to learn of the land use capability and potential uses.
All supporters and the public are invited to a power point presentation of the draft and to provide feedback and comment.

All are welcome to join in the 6th season of Whareroa planting. It will start at the Dell and may move on to the Ti Kouka Stream area, depending on numbers. The Kāpiti Pateke Lions have donated $500 for plants and some members will join us in the planting on the 17th. This is part of an international Lions planting campaign to have planted several million trees by the end of June. Wear boots or gummies and garden gloves and bring planting tools. Some planting (carex in the swamp) is very muddy. Follow the flags from the entrance. Bamboo sticks, 1m long and thick enough to push into the ground to mark plants, would be appreciated.

The commemoration of the US Marines’ time in Kāpiti has been very successful and continues for a few more days. John Porter and Anthony Dreaver arranged this excellent sign, now up in the information bay at the farm. Reminder of the run/walk on June 10th. See www.marinesnz.com
Carpet
Thank you for wool carpet donations. We now have large stocks and have run out of storage room. However, if you have (wool only) carpet and can cut it into 50cm squares with a “Y” into the centre, (using a Stanley knife), such squares will be gratefully received. If anyone would like to take some carpet home to cut up, have a word with us at planting or phone Ann at 904 7114. We can drop it off if needed.
