Leeann Morgan was recently appointed Libraries and Arts Manager for the Kāpiti Coast District Council.
Leeann has worked in local government for 27 years, the past 17 years at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. She has held a number of positions with Council, including Children’s Librarian, Equity Employment Opportunities Officer, Customer Services team member, and Business Development Manager. Her passion has always been with libraries.
“Being a librarian is more than just issuing books and finding answers to curly questions – it’s about connecting people with each other and the world we live in.”
She has seen many exciting changes in the region with highlights including the building of Paraparaumu Library and the recent conversion of the Paekākāariki tennis club rooms into a boutique library, and the establishment of the SMART libraries consortium. SMART is a services collaboration between four councils, including Kāpiti Coast, and two tertiary education institutions in the Wellington region.
Leeann is excited about the future of the libraries, arts and heritage on the Kāpiti Coast.
“We have a fantastic team of librarians and Council staff, who are passionate about what they do. Our Councillors recognise what a treasure we have in our libraries and support our activities with courage and enthusiasm. We are lucky to be part of a community that embraces the services and resources that our libraries provide.”
Leeann says in the next few months many changes will be taking place in the district libraries. As well as planning for the refurbishment of the Waikanae Library and Mahara Gallery, activities are planned to attract more people to libraries.
