A drop in the number of commuters using the Capital Connection train service from Palmerston North to Wellington may result in the train being retired from service.
Although the Capital Connection is the more luxurious train, it appears the 7.30am arrival in Waikanae is not the supreme time and therefore many Waikanae commuters have decided to switch to the newer, half hourly peak time service.
Kāpiti regional councillor Nigel Wilson said he would be bitterly disappointed to see the Capital Connection train retired as it is an extremely good service for the people north of Kāpiti.
A decision on the life or death of the service is due to be announced within the next six months.
