“There’s no doubt Kāpiti young people have talent,” Mayor Jenny Rowan said today, “and this year’s Sustainable Home & Garden Show on March 26 and 27 is offering an opportunity to showcase that.
“We’re looking for expressions of interest from young performing artists to take part in the Creative Coast Kids timeslot at this year’s Show.
“Opportunities for young people to showcase their talents in front of an audience are few and far between,” Jenny Rowan said, “and we want to ensure our up and coming talent is in the spotlight at the Council’s signature event, the Sustainable Home & Garden Show.”
Young people of Primary through College age who would like to participate in the Creative Coast Kids timeslot at this year’s Show are encouraged to contact the Show’s Entertainment Co-ordinator Susie Colien Reid, on 027 411 4030, or through the Council’s website www.kapiticoast.govt.nz.
Young people with design and fashion talents can also enter a Kāpiti News Recycled Style event where the only material to be used in making garments is recycled newspaper. It’s a way to turn today’s news, into tomorrow’s fashion.
“You’ll have the opportunity to create your own wearable masterpieces while at the Show, and to model them in one of three Fashion Shows to take place during the weekend,” Jenny Rowan said.
Show organisers will set up a special Creativity Marquee where children will have access to newspaper and sellotape, as well as the expertise of local personality Julie Maltby, who ran a successful wearable arts event in Kāpiti for several years.
The Kāpiti Sustainable Home & Garden Show, now in its seventh year, focuses on sustainable living indoors and out. The Show will be open 9am to 4pm on March 26 and 10am to 4pm on March 27. Admission is a gold coin for adults with children free.
