The construction of a pavilion along side the Kāpiti Hockey Turf at Mazengarb Park is expected to be completed later this year after the announcement of the contract to Hawkins Construction.
At a well attended ceremony at the Council Chamber, the Kāpiti Turf Trust chairman Roger Sowry said the project was right on target and the design has been approved.
The new pavilion will have toilets and changing rooms as well as an entertainment lounge and viewing area.
“The building design looks fantastic and we are delighted everything is going so well,” said Mr Sowry.
Mayor Rowan said the pavillion is another valuable asset for Kāpiti. “The Trust has met every challenge and Council has been pleased to have supported the project. I now look forward to the construction phase and an official opening later this year. It’s great news all round.”
With a recent cheque for $600,000 from the Lotteries Commission the project has a sound financial base.
Mr Sowry said there will also be opportunities for local businesses to have sponsorship signage at the venue.
Matt Wilton of Hawkins Construction said his team was ready to go and he will be working with the Trust to finalise project details.
