The Kāpiti Petanque Club is gearing up for another big season and will host its major championship this weekend 22-23 January.
The club’s Open Doubles tournament will feature teams from as far afield as Dunedin and Auckland as players chase national ranking points from this prestigious event.
The club has just received a new trophy from long time Kāpiti sponsor Liz Koh of Moneymax.
Kath Alison has been with the club since its foundation and says the sport is increasing in popularity.
“It was great to get the new trophy. Liz has been a loyal supporter of the club for eight years.
“For our Open Doubles we already have a full muster of 96 players, including the defending champions. With seeding points towards the national rankings we are always guaranteed a top quality field,” said Mrs Alison.
“Our club is also going well. We have a current membership of 120 with a good mix of ages and we have the advantage of being able to play all year round.”
Ms Koh said she was pleased to continue supporting the club.
“The club has built a great facility. They can be very proud of what they have achieved on a limited budget. The club is an asset for Kāpiti.”
