KiwiRail will carry out improvement works on the Paraparaumu Line this weekend, as part of its wider programme to upgrade Wellington’s rail network.
The work will include installation of new overhead wires and the poles which carry them and the removal of old poles. KiwiRail will also continue with preparatory works on tunnels between Pukerua Bay and Paekākāariki, which will be lowered over the coming Christmas New Year holiday period.
To allow this work to happen, buses will replace trains between Welllington and Paraparaumu from 6am Saturday 2 October to midnight Sunday 3 October.
Bus replacements will leave Wellington Station from Platform 9 and cannot carry bicycles. More information about bus replacements is available at www.tranzmetro.co.nz or via Metlink on 0800 801 700.
The weekend’s work is part of the Wellington Region Rail Programme, a series of improvements to the Wellington railway system that will give commuters more reliable passenger services. This is a joint initiative between the Greater Wellington Regional Council and KiwiRail.
