Having had the pleasure of serving on the Waikanae Community Board for the last six years I would now love to have the opportunity to serve as Waikanae’s Ward Councillor.
I see Waikanae as a community that both young and old love living in. This means making decisions on your behalf that will ensure we have the core necessities of life, a great community atmosphere, travel is safe and easy, and a great environment to pursue outdoor activities. We also need a community that provides plenty of economic opportunities. I am conscious these decisions will need to be affordable and sustainable and provide value for money to the rate payer. We also need to balance short and long-term needs. If elected one of the more challenging aspects will advocating for the best possible outcomes for Waikanae, given NZTA’s choice of expressway route.
I have lived in Waikanae for the last 11 years and have a very long association with this area. I’m from a farming family that moved to Te Horo in the 1880s. My husband and I are very pleased we chose Waikanae to bring up our two primary school-aged children. Professionally I have a research background in science. I work in an environment that routinely processes submissions on publicly notified applications, holds hearings and is occasionally subjected to judicial reviews, much like processing an expressway application.
The Waikanae Community needs someone who can listen to what the community is saying and then takes this to the next level of balancing this with the best fit for the short and long term community’s needs. I have the life skills and ability, and am a highly practical person and an independent thinker who can make well formed decisions on complex issues on behalf of our community.
Jocelyn Prvanov is also a candidate for the Waikanae Community Board.
