Ōtaki MP and Minister of Internal Affairs Nathan Guy has attended the recent presentation of Queen’s Service Medals (QSM) to two local firefighters.
Wayne Sarjeant, Chief Fire Officer at the Paraparaumu Volunteer Fire Brigade and Lindsay Walker, Chief Fire Officer at the Levin Volunteer Fire Brigade were both honoured by the Governor-General for services to the New Zealand Fire Service.
“Lindsay and Wayne richly deserve this honour,” says Mr Guy. “Both have given years of service and have promoted innovations in providing better responses to callouts.
“Like many volunteer firefighters, both are involved in their local communities in a variety of roles.
“We’ve seen in Canterbury recently just how much we rely on emergency services like firefighters in times of need.”
