The building planned for Mitre 10 Mega at Paraparaumu Airport today got resource and building consent to proceed.
“The consents have been issued without notification but with several strict conditions,” Kāpiti Coast District Council’s Group Manager, Community & Corporation Information Bernie Goedhart said today.
Paraparaumu Airport Limited is constructing the building to be tenanted by Mitre 10 Mega.
“Compared to other Mitre 10 Mega buildings, this one will be significantly lower in height and rather than strong branded colours will use titanium and grey stripes to break up the silhouette on the walls facing the eastern side and the residential areas to the south.
“The branding will be an orange strip on the Kāpiti Road side as well as the trademark orange facing the airport area but small dunes along the road side are expected to soften the effect.
“Instead of the usual strong roof line, the roof design is lower and curved.
“These changes are in line with the requirements of the plan change design guide for the airport.
“A requirement for planting to be established around the complex will further reduce the visual effects over time,” Mr Goedhart said.
The consents mean construction may begin at any time.
“Access to the site will be via a new roundabout to be constructed on Kāpiti Road for which Paraparaumu Airport Limited already have consent.”
