Kāpiti is likely to have an international quality facility by the end of next year after Council gave the green light for the construction of a pavilion along side the Kāpiti Hockey Turf at Mazengarb park.
The pavilion will have toilets and changing rooms as well as an entertainment lounge and viewing area.
Kāpiti Recreational Turf Trust chairperson Roger Sowry said Council’s approval for funding is fantastic news for the wide range of users of the Kāpiti Turf.
“The Council is to be congratulated for this investment in the youth of the district. Their committment will now enable us to finish the facility,” said Mr Sowry.
Mayor Rowan said the funding was necessary to ensure the completion of this terrific amenity. “This is a big deal for Kāpiti and will be a fantastic facility.”
Mr Sowry said the Trust will now be able to work on finalising the design of the pavilion.
“Our turf is one of the best in New Zealand and we are now able to plan the whole facility through to completion.”
Once completed the new facility is expected to attract regional, national and international matches.
