A new service will be offered at Paraparaumu Library starting in July. It is called “Tea and Tales” and features local personalities reading from various resources.
Modelled on similar programmes at other libraries, “Tea and Tales” will begin July 6 at 9:45am with a cup of tea and a chat followed by an hour’s reading starting at 10 a.m. The sessions will be on the first Tuesday of the month thereafter.
Readings at the “Tea and Tales” events will include short stories, poems, excerpts from novels and anecdotes. The readers will choose a variety of material from the humorous to thought provoking, moving and insightful. All material will be from the library’s collections, so people can borrow the material they find interesting.
Scheduled readers so far include: Sue Perkins, Librarian; Anthony Dreaver, author and historian; Jennifer Ramshaw, lecturer, Victoria University; and Janet Secker, former teacher and radio personality.
“Tea and Tales” has been developed by Kaye Foran, Information Services Librarian.
She said that vision impaired groups and Age Concern have expressed interest in the programme, but she also notes “the readings are for anyone to enjoy and there is no charge.”
