‘A victory for grassroots democracy in Kāpiti’ is how Community Boards are greeting the Local Government Commission’s decision to retain the boards for Ōtaki, Waikanae, Paraparaumu/Raumati, and Paekākāariki.
Paraparaumu/Raumati board chair John Haxton hailed the outcome as a victory for commonsense.
“There was no popular demand for a change to the boards and it shows just how out of touch the five councillors are who tried to push this through.”
Those five councillors were Peter Ellis, Diane Ammundsen, David Scott, Tony Jack and Anne Molineux.
