Waikanae's Cr Tony Lloyd dies after short illness
November 2014
Popular Waikanae Councillor Tony Lloyd

Popular Waikanae councillor Tony Lloyd has died on the weekend after a short illness.
He had a business management and governance background including Chairmanship of the Kapanui School Board of Trustees and Coasters Musical Theatre which made him a life member last year.
Cr Lloyd had previously been a Waikanae Community Board member for 15 years and was Chair for three years.
At the last election he was elected in a close contest as ward councillor for Waikanae and continued to serve on the Waikanae Community Board.
Cr Lloyd was also the current chair of KCDC's Appeals Committee, responsible for hearing appeals or objections on Council's regulatory and compliance areas.
Leading into the last election Cr Lloyd said he wanted to see the community board have more say in deciding Waikanae's programme in grass root areas such as footpath renewals and repairs.
"Once the existing state highway becomes a local road we need to involve the whole community in deciding what our town centre and Mahara Place will look like.
"We can't compete with Paraparaumu so should we make Waikanae a destination shopping/dining experience."
Councillor Lloyd, 67, is married to Jill and lived in Waikanae for 43 years.
Councillor Lloyd died in Wellington hospital after suffering a stroke following scheduled surgery.
Mayor Ross Church said it was with the greatest sadness that he acknowledge Cr Lloyd's passing. "Tony was a dedicated and hard-working councillor who was a strong advocate for the Waikanae ward and for the goals and aspirations of the wider Kapiti district. Our thoughts are with Jill and the family."
