October 21, 2017

A Dukes of Hazard style police chase from Wainuiomata, through Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Otaki has just ended with the ramming of a Police car in Levin.

The 100km pursuit of two teenagers driving a stolen silver Holden 4X4 began when the driver did not stop for flashing lights.

A police spokeswoman says the car was reported driving southbound in a northbound lane near Hebden Cr in Hutt City at about 7.45pm on Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle reported stolen from Wainuiomata then refused to stop for red and blue flashing lights.

The driver fled north along the winding State Highway 58, the Haywards Hill Rd route between Hutt and SH1 in Porirua City.

The pursuit continued to the Kapiti Coast, heading north along the Kapiti expressway, through Waikanae, and Otaki, before entering Horowhenua and Levin.

The Police spokeswoman says the vehicle was spiked by police, and eventually, with its rims breaking apart, swerved into a patrol car at low speed in northern Levin at about 8.50pm.

The two male teenage occupants, and police were uninjured.
