More health services for Kapiti residents

Otaki MP Nathan Guy visits Hora te Pai GP Uri Steinfeld

Otaki MP Nathan Guy says he has learned more about healthcare services now being provided by local health organisations such as Hora te Pai.

"Local GPs at Hora te Pai are being funded by the Capital & Coast District Health Board and PHOs so that their patients can now get additional care, such as intravenous antibiotics and management of deep vein blood clots," says Mr Guy.

"It's great to have these extra services now provided locally, when normally these patients would have to go to hospital. This model is the most effective for patients who access hospitals frequently, such as the elderly.

"I'll continue to advocate for getting even more services like these provided locally," says Mr Guy.

The Kapiti Health Centre provides outpatient clinics, maternity services, community health and community mental health. It is well-supported by Wellington Free Ambulance and the Mary Potter Hospice.

Mr Guy also met recently with the Capital & Coast DHB (CCDHB) to discuss their planning for the future of health services in the Kapiti area.

"The Kapiti Health Centre site is about four hectares with potential to grow. We can achieve more by enabling our local doctors to deliver more health services in the community," says Mr Guy.

"I support CCDHB completing an assessment for the future of the site. We've got good local healthcare services already, but now's the opportunity to future-proof our healthcare for the demands of our growing population."
